Kong Named a Leader in the GigaOm Radar for Service Mesh

Plus recognized as an Outperformer (again)!

Bryan Nairn, CISSP
Head of Product Marketing

Kong Mesh has been named a Leader and Outperformer in the 2023 GigaOm® Radar for Service Mesh report. We feel this awesome achievement highlights Kong's ongoing commitment to innovation and ease of use in the service mesh space.

What is the GigaOM Radar report?

The GigaOm Radar report is a market analysis focused on identifying forward-looking solutions and vendors that are executing on a compelling vision. Unlike reports that emphasize market share, the GigaOm Radar aims to provide actionable insights for IT decision-makers looking to develop modern, flexible strategies.

As GigaOm puts it, the Radar synthesizes “practitioner-led, data-driven analysis of a technology sector.” The closer to the center of the Radar a vendor is placed, the better GigaOm considers its execution and value. Top performers occupy the inner “Leaders circle.”

For tech leaders tasked with staying competitive amid continuous change, the data and visions fueling GigaOm’s evaluations provide trusted guidance.

A leader in enterprise solutions

Kong stands out for its ability to extend the capabilities of the open source Kuma project into an enterprise-ready solution with Kong Mesh.

In addition, Kong is the only GigaOm Outperformer for Service Mesh to also be named a Leader in the 2023 Gartner Magic Quadrant™.

The strengths of Kong Mesh

Kong Mesh is a flexible service-to-service connectivity solution for developing modern applications that drive compelling digital experiences for an organization’s customers. But you don’t have to take our word for it. Here are a few key strengths the GigaOm report calls out with Kong Mesh:

  • Ease of use and built-in automation capabilities — especially when compared to complex open source solutions that can be tough to deploy and manage
  • FIPS 140-2 compliance and a consistent application of security policies across environments for security-minded organizations
  • 24/7 support from Kong’s customer reliability engineering (CRE) team

A big part of Kong's strength lies in its "run anywhere" philosophy. Kong Mesh supports workloads across bare metal, Kubernetes, and VMs without adding complexity. By automating complex tasks like policy distribution and security, Kong Mesh simplifies operations and accelerates development cycles.

“Once installed, Kong Mesh improves service connectivity via policies that can be added to each mesh, service, or attribute that qualifies a traffic path, accelerating developer efficiency, cost reduction, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance, and zero-trust security,” the GigaOm report reads.

Kong Mesh is integrated with Kong Konnect, the unified platform for API management, service mesh, and ingress controller.
