Announcing Kong Insomnia 9.2 with Faker API Support and More
We're pleased to announce the general availability of Kong Insomnia 9.2. This release further expands on the features recently announced in Insomnia 9.0, with support for automatically generated fake values powered by the Faker.js library.
Automatic injection of random values
With the new Faker support, we are further augmenting the dynamic capabilities of Insomnia when assigning a value to a query string or body parameter, with the ability to choose across 100+ different formats for inserting randomized credible data values in our collections.
- We can choose from a large variety of use cases, like:
- Randomized names, usernames, and emails
- Randomized phone numbers and street names
- Randomized URLs to actual images available for public consumption
- Randomized bank account information
- Randomized sentences
- And a lot more!
To get access to this new capability, simply right-click to open the contextual menu to enter Faker entries, in addition to all other dynamic capabilities that Insomnia already supports.

Performance improvements and global search
We're focusing on continuously improving the performance of Insomnia and the ability to work offline whenever you have a poor or missing internet connection. In Insomnia 9.2, we've shipped numerous performance improvements, including the ability to handle large OpenAPI specifications in the Design Document feature without blocking the application.
We've also improved the search palette to now support global search across multiple organizations:
We've introduced the ability to search across multiple organizations from the search palette.
What’s next?
We'll keep focusing on improving the experience for offline usage of the application in the instances where the internet connection is either offline or running slow. In addition to the pre-request scripting capabilities announced with Insomnia 9.0, we'll continue to introduce new features such as the ability to add tests directly into the collections.
Today, Insomnia supports unit and integration testing via the Design Document capability in the API testing tab. This functionality will soon be expanded on by putting it directly into the collection to even further simplify testing and make it easier to migrate to Insomnia from competing API clients. Stay tuned!
