Kong Unveils Kong Champions Program to Recognize “Super” Users from its 40K-Member Community

Kong Open Source Users and Contributors Invited to Apply Online Now to Become a Champion

SAN FRANCISCO and BARCELONA, Spain (KubeCon+CloudNativeCon Europe 2019, Booth G4), May 21, 2019Kong Inc., the company behind the popular Kong open source API platform for modern architectures, today announced the launch of the Kong Champions Program. This new program is designed to recognize super users and contributors of Kongs core open source product and give them unique opportunities to make an impact on the Kong community. To become an official Kong Champion, interested users can apply here.

Kong was built as an open source project in 2015 to secure, connect and orchestrate APIs for modern architectures such as microservices, cloud native and serverless. Today, Kong has been downloaded more than 75 million times and is widely used in production at organizations of all sizes, from startups to Global 5000 companies and government agencies.

The magic of open source software is the community of passionate users and contributors who freely share their code, ideas and key learnings, said Marco Palladino, CTO and co-founder of Kong Inc. Kong was founded on open source DNA, and we remain committed to building and fostering a vibrant community that together achieves great things. With the new Kong Champions Program, we want to make it easier for our champions to give back, engage directly with their peers and help shape the future of their community.

How the Program Works

Kong Champions will have the opportunity to share their Kong passion and knowledge with the larger open source community through forum discussions, blogging, talks at local events, monthly Kong Community Calls and other activities. Kong Champions are the core foundation of the community and share the following attributes: they actively engage in the community across different mediums, and are helpful and responsive to other members who need assistance.

Jeremy Justus, a long-standing member of the Kong community based in South Carolina, recently applied to the program and is one of the first Kong Champions. I am looking forward to driving adoption of my favorite application in the mesh and microservice toolkit; its a jungle out there and Kong is the rightful King, said Jeremy. As a Kong Champion, Im excited to continue helping the community by providing insights from all my engineering with Kong technology.

Kong users and contributors interested in becoming a Kong Champion can submit an application to be considered for the program.
