DevOps Is More Than Configuration Management, Who Knew?
Rick Sherman
First impressions are everything. Like many people, my introduction into DevOps (back in 2013) was configuration management tools. This was great because I had been automating infrastructure for years with custom and proprietary software, but now there was a name for it. This also meant that for a very long time, I thought of DevOps almost exclusively as configuration management. As it turns out, there's quite a bit more to it than that.
This session is about my journey with DevOps and automation — how my understanding of the landscape and the tools themselves have evolved over the years. Each step of the way, I'll show how my DevOps toolbox grew, how new skills built on top of old ones, some of the challenges encountered, and in retrospect, what I wish I knew.
By the end of the session, you should be able to objectively look at your automation journey to see where you can expand your horizons — and help others along the way!
Destination: Automation is a free, digital event exploring ways organizations can embrace automation to make their applications and underlying tech stacks more efficient, secure and resilient.
