Announcing Insomnia’s New Teams RBAC and Domain Capture
Today — alongside the announcement of Kong Insomnia 10.2 — we're excited to introduce two new Kong Insomnia enterprise capabilities that will improve user management at scale across every organization. These new features are available to use for every existing enterprise customer, and they complement existing advanced user management capabilities like EE SSO and SCIM.
Let’s take a look at each of the new capabilities.
“Teams” for your enterprise users
Up until now, it was possible to invite collaborators to join your projects by inviting them individually, with the ability to specify their RBAC role to grant them more — or less — access to your API collections, design documents, API mocks, and tests.
Now, Insomnia is making it even easier to organize your users by introducing a new concept of “Teams.” You can now group multiple individual collaborators in a Team, and then invite the whole Team to join a specific project, rather than needing to invite those users individually. By doing so, it's now easier to organize your users and manage collaboration at scale.
With the new Team capability, you can now manage a group of users together. Plus, you can automatically assign a user to a Team via automated SCIM and a third-party IDP.
By managing your users within a Team, you can now also modify the invite list across many projects simply by editing the Team itself (instead of having to add/remove users from each individual organization). This new capability is also compatible with our SCIM support, which means that you can automatically provision users within an Insomnia Team based on the group settings of your identity provider (IdP).
Onboarding thousands of users to Insomnia, and managing their roles and permissions automatically, has never been easier.
Domain Capture
Domain Capture is a new capability to help enterprises consolidate their team members and manage access efficiently. When enabled, Domain Capture automatically moves all user accounts associated with an enterprise’s verified domain into the designated team, ensuring centralized control and management.
Managing licenses is simplified with Domain Capture and the new licenses administration page.
Additionally, we’ve introduced a license management page, empowering enterprise owners to control who can access enterprise resources and providing a clear view of license usage across the team. When Domain Capture is disabled, users associated with the domain can join multiple teams or operate independently within Insomnia.
By shipping these features, Insomnia simplifies the often cumbersome processes of managing team members, licenses, and onboarding, ensuring smoother administration and compliance for large organizations.
