Kong Usage Metrics Glossary

This Usage Metrics Glossary sets out the definitions of certain terms used in Kong Order Forms to indicate the applicable units purchased by the Customer under the Order Form. The applicable definitions are incorporated into and form part of the Customer’s Order Form with Kong with respect to its use of Kong products, unless otherwise provided in the Order Form.

Kong Konnect Gateway and Kong Gateway Enterprise

A “Gateway Service” is an API or service managed through Kong Konnect or the Kong Gateway.

“API Request" is a single request message sent to a Gateway Service.

Kong Konnect Developer Portal

“Developer Portal” means a developer portal instance hosted in Kong Konnect.

“Published API” means an API that is exposed by or on behalf of the Customer via a Developer Portal.

Kong Konnect Service Catalog

“Governed Service” means a service listed in the Customer’s Service Catalog against which the Customer has applied a scorecard to evaluate the service against validation criteria.

Kong Konnect Advanced Analytics

“Advanced Analytics API Request” is an API Request whose metadata is ingested into the Advanced Analytics Product.

Kong Konnect Dedicated Cloud Gateways

“Cloud Service Provider” means Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Services (GCP), or other supported cloud provider, as applicable.

“Data Transfer” means data (expressed in gigabytes) egressing from a Dedicated Cloud Gateway. This includes data transferred to the Customer’s upstream services, to the end consumer, to other Customer services (such as logging, caching), or to any other services (such as to other internet or SaaS services); provided in each case that the Cloud Service Provider charges Kong for the data transfer.

“Dedicated Cloud Gateway” is a set of hosted Kong Gateway instances sharing the same configuration, deployed in a particular Cloud Service Provider region, and associated network resources (such as global DNS, load balancers, and underlying auto-scaling compute infrastructure).

“Dedicated Cloud Gateways API Request" or “DCGW API Request” is a single request message sent to a Dedicated Cloud Gateway.

Kong Insomnia

“User” is a natural person who directly or indirectly has access to a Kong Insomnia account.

Kong AI Gateway

A “Large-Language Model” or “LLM” is a unique, large-language model, whether made available by a third-party or developed or modified by Customer, that is managed by or for the Customer through an Enterprise AI Plugin.

“Enterprise AI Plugin” means a Kong plugin with functionality to manage network traffic to or from a LLM that Kong makes generally available for use with the Kong Gateway with a paid subscription.

Kong Konnect Mesh Hybrid and Kong Mesh

A “Zone” is a logical grouping of data planes. In Kubernetes environments one cluster equals one Zone. In the case of virtual machines (VMs), this will usually mean one virtual network, such as a virtual private cloud (VPC), or one physical network, such as a data center availability zone, equals one Zone.
