Kong Usage Metrics Glossary
Kong Usage Metrics Glossary
This Usage Metrics Glossary sets out the definitions of certain terms used in Kong Order Forms to indicate the applicable units purchased by the Customer under the Order Form. The applicable definitions are incorporated into and form part of the Customer’s Order Form with Kong with respect to its use of Kong products, unless otherwise provided in the Order Form.
Kong Konnect Gateway and Kong Gateway Enterprise
A “Gateway Service” is an API or service managed through Kong Konnect or the Kong Gateway.
“API Request" is a single request message sent to a Gateway Service.
Kong AI Gateway
"Model" means a unique large-language model, whether made available by a third-party or developed or modified by Customer, whose traffic is proxied through the AI Gateway within a one-hour period.
Please note:
1. Use of Gateway Services with Models or MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers is included at no additional charge. Use of Gateway Services with non-Model or MCP server traffic is not included and is separately chargeable.
2. API Requests are chargeable whether the traffic is or is not Model or MCP server traffic. If Customer has purchased AI Gateway and another Product that includes API Requests as a usage metric, API Request usage is aggregated across AI Gateway and such other Products.
3. “Gateway Service” and “API Request” have the meaning given them under Kong Konnect Gateway and Kong Gateway Enterprise.

“Dedicated Cloud Gateway” is a set of hosted Kong Gateway instances sharing the same configuration, deployed in a particular Cloud Service Provider region, and associated network resources (such as global DNS, load balancers, and underlying auto-scaling compute infrastructure).
