BT Group Partners with Kong for Enhanced API Management
Kong will help the leading UK telecom provider modernize legacy systems to help drive efficiency across their IT infrastructure
SAN FRANCISCO, April 8, 2025 – Kong Inc., a leading developer of cloud API technologies, today announced a collaboration with BT Group, the UK’s leading provider of fixed and mobile telecommunications, to support its digital transformation journey. BT Group will use Kong Konnect to streamline their previously fragmented API ecosystem making it easier to adopt new technologies, such as Generative AI, more efficiently. Kong Konnect is an API lifecycle platform purpose-built to power innovation at scale.
The telecom industry is undergoing massive changes driven by the move toward AI and connected devices. With this in mind, BT Group is committed to automating, digitizing, and phasing out legacy systems, processes, and networks. This includes reducing the number of applications they’re using significantly by 2027 to reduce both cost and complexity.
“As we work to modernize our legacy infrastructure, transform our cost base and improve productivity, we knew we needed the right partner to help us achieve our goals,” said Abhijit Dasgupta, Senior Manager - Digital Enablement Architecture at BT Group. “Kong will not only allow us to work more efficiently, but they will provide us the infrastructure needed to better govern our APIs. We’re excited to work together on delivering better experiences for our developers and customers."
Through Kong Konnect, BT plans to introduce a federated approach to centralize their API management on one platform, enhance governance, and establish a self-service model for developers to manage APIs independently. This shift will help improve the company’s time-to-market, generate cost savings and improve the developer experience for BT engineers.
“With the Kong Konnect platform, we enable organizations like BT to keep up with the ever-evolving technology landscape by helping them innovate faster and cost-effectively. BT understands the opportunities modernizing their infrastructure allows for and are investing in their future,” said Marco Palladino, CTO and Co-Founder, Kong Inc. “We’re honored to help them achieve their digital transformation goals.”
Kong Konnect Platform
As described, Konnect is an API lifecycle platform that is purpose-built to power innovation at scale. As context, APIs remain a complex challenge if they aren’t high-quality, secure, discoverable, performant, and resilient. Konnect addresses this directly by unifying, securing, and streamlining API operations while delivering a seamless experience for both API providers and consumers. By transforming APIs into strategic assets with built in governance, automation, and monetization, Konnect accelerates innovation, shortens time to market, and enables the development of superior digital experiences and AI-driven applications.
