# Automated API Test Generation Gives Every Service a Complete Test Suite on Each Code Change
This session explains how Rocket Mortgage automated API test generation so every code change can quickly produce a runnable, standardized test suite with far less manual effort. Krupali Pilgulwar describes the problem first: limited bandwidth often leads to weak API coverage, production issues, slower releases, and poor visibility into what was actually tested. The solution evolved from a single-request Insomnia plugin into a broader workflow that generates API specs from code, opens pull requests for spec updates, creates complete test collections and environment files, adds CI/CD actions, and provisions test data through mocks or sanitized production-derived data. The approach also uses Dynatrace traces to turn incidents into new test scenarios, supports both OpenAPI and GraphQL, and allows local or pipeline execution through MCP tools and GitHub apps. One example produced about 1,400 tests for 121 endpoints and roughly 220 requests in under a minute, with 100% coverage at that level and about 80% business-rule coverage, while humans still review PRs and validate remaining gaps.
