# The Key to Platform Adoption: Trust, Transparent Standards and Fast Developer Onboarding
This talk explains that successful platform engineering is not just about scalable architecture, security, and standards, but about building trust, reducing friction, and designing platforms that developers and AI agents can use safely and easily. Drawing on experience leading platform teams at Pandora and examples from Spotify, Netflix, Amazon, and Air Canada, Ashi argues that great technology does not guarantee adoption: if onboarding is slow, approvals are excessive, or controls feel like obstacles, developers will avoid the platform. She frames adoption around three factors—trust, transparency, and time—and recommends measuring the time to first successful onboarding by watching a developer use the platform without help. The talk also argues that AI changes platform design by making nonhuman consumers a real user group, which raises the importance of clear APIs, strong documentation, built-in guardrails, and governance that shifts from gatekeeping to scalable policy, observability, authentication, and authorization.
