# How TBC Bank Scaled Internal APIs and Ended the Integration Bottleneck with Kong
This talk explains how TBC Bank in Georgia scaled its internal API ecosystem with Kong by changing both its technology and its operating model. As the bank grew after adopting scaled agile in 2019, a central integration team that once built integrations and business logic for everyone became a bottleneck, so TBC shifted ownership closer to product and consumer teams while the integration team moved into an enabler role focused on governance, standards, self-service, and discoverability. The team also learned that publishing APIs was not enough: developers needed to find, understand, trust, and use them without relying on other teams, which led to a developer portal enriched with metadata, categories, guides, reports, and support for synchronous and asynchronous APIs. To maintain content quality across more than 300 APIs, TBC introduced discoverability scorecards and used AI to draft documentation from OpenAPI specifications, with provider teams reviewing the results. The changes reduced integration time by 80%, supported 8 billion monthly requests, and helped 150 teams work without the integration team remaining a bottleneck.
