Kong Konnect Dedicated Cloud Gateways: Deploy Fully Featured Kong Gateways Anywhere, Now With Azure Support
It’s no secret that building global API infrastructure is a daunting task. In April, we announced the general availability of Kong Konnect Dedicated Cloud Gateways — a fully managed, multi-region API management solution that makes setting up global API infrastructure fast and easy. With Dedicated Cloud Gateways, organizations can deploy performant, scalable, and highly available Kong Gateways in single-tenant cloud infrastructure through Kong Konnect.
Today, we're thrilled to announce that Cloud Gateways now come with Microsoft Azure support in five regions across Europe and North America. This means you can now deploy Cloud Gateways in both Azure and/or AWS (already supported) in 23 regions worldwide. And with support for Google Cloud coming in later months, this marks a significant milestone in Kong’s journey to becoming the industry's first API management provider that enables enterprises to standardize their end-to-end API lifecycle management platform independent of cloud providers.
Before, organizations had to order hardware, install software, set up and manage data centers, and deal with the infrastructural quirks of a single cloud provider. These challenges often result in expensive and timely workarounds, security concerns, and a growing need for SRE resources. Nowadays, industry analyses suggest multi-cloud strategies are becoming essential for digital transformation. According to Flexera, in 2024, 89% of enterprises expect to have a multi-cloud strategy established.
Kong Konnect’s Dedicated Cloud Gateways, currently supported in both Microsoft Azure and AWS, ultimately provides customers with the following strategic benefits:
- Flexibility to easily deploy and manage APIs across multiple cloud platforms and avoid vendor lock-in
- Reliability with increased uptime and resilience by distributing APIs across diverse environments
- Cost efficiency through optimizing cloud spending by leveraging the strengths of different cloud providers
Kong will meet you wherever you deploy
Dedicated Cloud Gateways’ newly added support for Microsoft Azure spans across five regions: Frankfurt, Ireland, UK, US - Virginia, and US - Washington.
The expanded presence with Azure complements existing AWS support, which has recently grown to include an additional nine regions. Customers can now set up fully managed gateways in 23 regions worldwide, leveraging the robust infrastructure of Azure and AWS. Kong has plans to support an increasing number of regions, and — as mentioned above — Google Cloud support will arrive soon. This vast geographic coverage ensures low latency, high-availability API services wherever your business operates.
