Insomnia 10.1 Adds New Collection Runner CLI, In-App Invites, and More
As a follow-up to our recent Kong Insomnia v10 release that shipped with an unlimited and free Collection Runner and one week after announcing our official SCIM support for automated user provisioning, we're now excited to announce Insomnia v10.1.
This release ships with the general availability of the CLI to use the Collection Runner with CI/CD automation, a new in-app invite wizard that simplifies working with collaborators, and many other improvements. As usual, to see the full value of Insomnia, we strongly recommend upgrading to this latest version.
Running your collections with the CLI
The innovation with Insomnia never rests. Only a month after announcing the availability of our new Collection Runner within Insomnia 10, we're now announcing the ability to run collections using the Insomnia CLI (called “Inso”).
😱 And in case you didn’t know, the Collection Runner is both unlimited and free, whether it is being used via the GUI or the CLI.
With this new CLI feature, you can now automate the running of your collections in CI/CD pipelines so that they can be executed locally, on GitHub Actions, via Jenkins, and other platforms. This will ensure that your APIs are always working properly and that you can quickly spot inconsistencies if there are any errors or breaking changes in the API implementations that you're testing.
The GUI now provides a helper capability that can automatically generate the Inso CLI command and arguments for you:
We can now use the Collection Runner via the GUI, or via the CLI.
Furthermore, all advanced configurations are supported in the CLI. You'll have the ability to select a different environment, the ability to configure the number of iterations, and much more.
Below is an example of what it looks like to run the collections via the CLI:
And just like that, we've automated our collection testing.
In-app sharing experience with collaborators
With Insomnia, you can easily decide to collaborate with other users on your projects, collections, design specifications, and more. The collaboration experience is especially seamless when you decide to securely store your projects on the Insomnia Cloud (instead of storing them locally, which is also possible via Local Vault).
With this new release of Insomnia, we're now introducing the ability to manage existing collaborators and invite new ones directly from within the desktop application, instead of having to open the browser and manage your invites from the Insomnia website.
With the new in-app invite dialog, inviting collaborators and managing them has never been easier.
This makes it even easier to invite collaborators and partners to collaborate with you. It also allows you to update the role of your collaborators in just a few clicks, without having to leave the application.
Automatic proxy discovery
Finally, we've improved the user experience of Insomnia by automatically picking up the operating system proxy settings and applying them to Insomnia.
With this automatic proxy configuration, we're aiming to make it easier for users to configure their networking settings. Of course, the proxy settings can be customized at any time by going to Preferences > Proxy, and when connected via a proxy, you will see an updated status in the footer of the Insomnia application so that there's no misunderstanding that a proxied connection has been configured.
